STEELCASE

DELIVERABLES

As a member of a three-person team, I was assigned a project to design a new office space and showroom for Steelcase, an office furniture manufacturer located at 181 The West Mall. The goal was to create a space that included an office area, showroom, and factory space, all within a limited budget and timeline. My primary responsibility was to produce a floor plan that catered to the privacy and collaboration needs of each department while aligning with the company's sustainability values.

To accomplish this, I created space allocation charts and conducted research to ensure that the design met the project brief and the client's expectations. I also facilitated the site selection process, ensuring that the showroom and product presentation areas were optimally positioned. It was crucial to design an open and collaborative space that would provide a safe environment for employees while also promoting better workflow.

CONCEPT

The office is designed to be a fusion of nature and functionality, serving as a workplace and a showroom for Steelcase. The primary objective is to prioritize mental health while creating a space that combines the tranquillity of nature with the productivity of a workspace.

The design incorporates elements inspired by the natural world, creating an environment that enhances well-being and productivity. One of the main focuses is the inclusion of greenery, recognizing the symbiotic relationship between humans and plants. The design prioritizes the incorporation of plants to create a sense of serenity.

The curved walls represent tree roots, symbolizing growth and productivity, while each branch celebrates the achievements of every employee. The earthy colour palette complements this organic aesthetic, creating a welcoming and calming environment. By including these elements, we aim to transform Steelcase's workplace into a sanctuary of peace and creativity.

Incorporating nature into the workplace is a key objective, as it enhances collaboration and well-being. Our commitment to natural design elements, including an open-concept layout, natural lighting, and furniture, creates an environment that promotes mental wellness and fosters a sense of community among employees.

In essence, Steelcase's office is designed to promote harmony and balance, where the boundaries between work and nature come together, and employees are empowered to thrive both professionally and personally.
